Construction Cost Estimating

The major of Construction Cost Estimating started admitting undergraduate students national wide since 2005. It was rated as the Special Constructing major of Shandong Province in 2012, High-level Applied Construction Major of Shandong Province in 2016, National First-tier Constructing major in 2019. The major ranked the 3^rd place among all universities who establish Construction Cost Estimating major nationally in 2021. National ranking of Construction Cost Estimating major, Qingdao University of Technology (QUT) in recent years, see table 1.

 Construction Cost Estimating faculty group assembled with full-time professors, part-time experienced faculties from enterprises, professional instructors and experienced lecturers. Of all 17 in-school faculties, 4 of them are tenured professors, 7 associate professors, 6 lecturers. Among them, 11 faculties possess Ph.D. degrees, and 7 of which are qualified for registered constructor, registered estimator, or registered supervisor. The faculty group actively responds to the requirements of the “New engineering” guidance, and integrate the concept of “all people participated, all life-cycles analyzed, all elements involved, and all aspects considered” into the training program, and focuses more on knowledge integration, innovation and feature outstanding. In recent years, the Construction Cost Estimating faculty group undertakes two research projects from National Natural Science Foundation of China, five provincial research projects, six city research projects, and more than 20 cooperated projects entrusted by industrial enterprises. Publicly published more than 120 research papers, 40 of which are indexed by SCI, EI, and ISTP. Published 20 and more related monographs and books.

After four years of education in Construction Cost Estimating, students will be awarded with a Bachelor Degree in Engineering. The core courses include: Engineering Drawings, Engineering Materials, Engineering Mechanics, Building Architecture, Engineering Quantity Surveying and Valuation, Engineering Economics, Construction Project Management, Construction Contract Management, Construction Cost Management, and Computer-aided Construction Estimating, etc.

The major of Construction Cost Estimating is equipped with perfect teaching facilities on campus. BIM lab, virtual reality simulation lab, construction model lab, project management lab, bidding sandbox lab, and big data cloud computing lab are all available for Construction Cost Estimating students. The major also collaborated with many large enterprises and groups and established practical internship base and employment base, include but not limited to China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp., Ltd, Qingjian Group co., Ltd, and Tentimes Real Estate Group co., Ltd, etc.

Current students of Construction Cost Estimating major have participated numerous national discipline competition, such as National Mathematical Modeling Contest, National English Contest for College Students, US Mathematical Modeling Contest, and got different levels of awards. Participated national professional skills competition, such as BIM Graduation Design Contest, BIM Digital Construction Innovation Contest, BIM Calculation Contest, and awarded top prizes.

Construction Cost Estimating is a popular major for enrollment and employment, the postgraduate entrance rate reached 35% and the employment rate reached 95% in 2022. The graduates could be employed in the companies professionalized in construction surveying, designing, constructing, supervising, investing, bidding agency, cost consultant, engineering audit, financing and insurance, real-estate related companies, and relevant government departments.
